In a sit-down with The Independent, Glass Animals’ frontman Dave Bayley discussed his reluctance to release their hit single “Heat Waves” due to its profoundly intimate nature.
Bayley acknowledged that offering the song to another artist seemed less vulnerable, stating, “Initially, it felt too personal and vulnerable to do it myself because the little secret in that song would be very, very strongly attached to me. And that was quite scary. I had hoped it would be someone else’s song.”
Bayley revealed that the band even approached pop star Rihanna with the track. “It got so far that I was sitting in the Roc Nation offices, playing the song for her manager,” he shared.
Though parts of the song were sent to Rihanna’s team, Bayley voiced comfort that the process continued.
“I’m grateful it didn’t go further,” he said, acknowledging, “But at the same time, obviously, I’m a huge fan – I would’ve loved it.”
Glass Animals announce new album and tour dates
Glass Animals have announced their highly anticipated fourth studio album, “I Love You So F***ing Much,” set for release on July 19 via Polydor. The album follows 2020’s “Dreamland” and features the lead single “Creatures in Heaven.”
Debating the existential themes of the new track, frontman Dave Bayley said, “It’s about a moment in time, be it a split second or a year or whatever, having the capacity to be enormously formative and life-changing. Even if it is over. Or if it doesn’t go as planned. Or if it dies too soon. It is still fucking beautiful. The love and care and the feeling in that moment live forever. It never really dies. If that’s how you choose to see it.”
The tracklisting for “I Love You So F***ing Much” includes:
- Show Pony
- whatthehellishappening
- Creatures in Heaven
- Wonderful Nothing
- A Tear in Space (Airlock)
- ICMYFILA
- How I Learned to Love the Bomb
- White Roses
- On the Run
- Lost in the Ocean
