After reading about a guy finding a human finger in an ice cream cone and company employees finding used condoms in samosas, I had to look into the most disgusting things people have seen in their food. The thought of eating your favourite snack and finding something that doesn’t belong is enough to make you sick. Here are the most shocking and gross things ever seen in food.
Human Finger in Ice Cream
Let’s start with the latest incident that prompted this article. Dr Orlem Brandon Serrao, a doctor from Mumbai, had a horrific experience when he ordered ice cream online. He asked his sister to order ice cream while ordering groceries. When he bit into what he thought was a nut in his butterscotch cone, he realized it was something far more sinister – a human finger. As a doctor, Serrao recognized the fingernail and fingerprint impressions and was traumatized. He immediately reported the incident to the police, investigating and analyzing the finger for any leads. The company that supplied the ice cream, Yummo, is in big trouble.

Used Condoms in Samosas
In another recent incident from Pimpri-Chinchwad, five people were booked after condoms, gutka and stones were found in samosas supplied to an auto company. The adulteration was allegedly a sabotage attempt by a rival subcontractor whose contract was cancelled earlier. The presence of these items not only disgusted the employees but also raised serious health and safety concerns. This is how low some people will go to harm their competitors, even if it means putting public health at risk.
Human Tooth in a Candy Bar
Sue Calhoun had her own horror experience 2010 during a road trip to Dallas. While eating a Milky Way candy bar, she bit into something hard, which turned out to be a complete human tooth. The thought of someone’s lost tooth ending up in her candy bar made her give up sweets for a long time. Mars Chocolate North America offered her coupons for free candy bars, but Sue wasn’t interested in redeeming them.
Rat Head in Fried Chicken
In 2006, a US KFC customer found a rat head in his fried chicken. The investigation revealed that the “rat head” was a deformed chicken piece. While it was a false alarm, the idea of a rat head in food was enough to freak out many customers.
Cockroach in a Burger
Brian Garmon found a cockroach in his Whopper at a Burger King in Florida. Just as he was about to take another bite, he saw the roach next to the burger. The manager apologized and offered a refund and a free meal, but Brian is now wary of fast food.
Needle in a Sandwich
In a freak incident, Angelina Cruz from New York bit into her Burger King breakfast sandwich in 2001 and found a needle in it. She sued the fast food chain for $11 million. Ouch!
Chicken Head in McDonald’s Wings
Katherine Ortega’s meal at McDonald’s in Virginia was ruined when she found a deep-fried chicken head in her box of wings. The sight of the head with the beak and eyes was enough to make her scream. Katherine is taking legal action despite the restaurant offering to replace the meal.
Dead Rodent in a Sandwich
In 2015, a Subway customer in Oregon found a dead mouse in his sandwich. The mouse was squished between the spinach and cheese. He reported the incident to the health department. This is why quality control is so important.
Acrylic Nail in Nachos
Kailynn Roland had a nasty surprise at a Taco Bell in Florida when she found an acrylic French-tip nail in her nachos. She vomited and swore off Taco Bell for life. The $40 in gift cards the restaurant offered her didn’t help.
Bullets in a Hot Dog
Olivia Chanes had a scary experience at a Costco in California when she bit into a hot dog and found a 9mm bullet. Later, she had to go to the hospital because of severe stomach pains and found out she had swallowed another bullet. Yikes! This was not only gross but also life-threatening.
Tampon in a Steak
One of the worst was when Axel Sanz-Claus found a bloody tampon in his $40 filet mignon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. He had to go to the hospital and is now suing the restaurant. This was especially shocking at a high-end establishment.
Black Widow Spider in Grapes
In 2015, a woman from Michigan found a black widow spider in a bag of grapes she had bought from Walmart. The venomous spider was a severe threat, so the store investigated. This is a reminder to always check your fresh produce.
Razor Blade in a Drink
Aubrey Simonds found a used razor blade in her daughter’s drink from Wendy’s in 2016. The employee put the blade in the cup so it wouldn’t be loose in the trash, but it ended up in a customer’s drink. Luckily, no one was hurt, but it could have been.
Maggots in an Orange
Hassan Ali from England found maggots and larvae inside a mandarin orange he bought from Sainsbury’s. The sight and smell of the rotting fruit filled with tiny eggs made anyone’s stomach turn.
These are not just about the gross things in food but also about food safety and quality control. Whether it’s a fast food chain or a high-end restaurant, these can happen anywhere, leaving customers horrified and often resulting in legal action.
